Agli inizi del Novecento molte aree comprese tra il fiume Isonzo e il Fiume Timavo presentavano ampie porzioni palustri e malsane. Nel primo dopoguerra con la costruzione del grande canale collettore, il Canale Principale oggi detto Brancolo, venne attuata un’opera di bonifica che comportò la realizzazione di una rete di canali per un totale di oltre 50 chilometri distribuiti su un’area di 3400 ettari. L’emungimento meccanico delle acque fu affidato al complesso idrovoro Sacchetti , tutt’oggi in funzione.

At the beginning of the twentieth century, many areas between the Isonzo and the Timavo rivers had large marshy and unhealthy areas.
