Il Mitreo è situato in prossimità delle risorgive del Timavo, all’interno di una grotta naturale. Nel periodo romano medio e tardo imperiale veniva celebrato presso questo complesso il culto di Mithra, con riti riservati agli iniziati. Lo testimoniano i reperti venuti alla luce, come i calchi di due stele marmoree, oltre cento lucerne e molte monete. All’interno si possono notare ancora oggi i segni dei banconi per gli adepti e l’altare.

Duino Mithraeum is located in the area of ​​the Timavo river springs, within a natural cave. During the middle and late imperial Roman period, the cult of Mithra was celebrated with esoteric ceremonies. This is evidenced by the finds that have come to light such as the casts of two marble steles, 150 lamps and 400 coins. Inside you can still see the signs where the pews for the worshippers and the altar were placed.
